Robert Scarcella Jr.
Owner, Rob's Computer Shop
A Little About Me...
I am the owner of Northern Host, LLC and Rob's Computer Shop. I've served our local community in Oscoda County, MI, since January 2009 and currently hold partnerships with Dell, Microsoft, and Gillware.
My skills include the professional knowledge of both computer hardware and software with all of the Windows Operating Systems from Windows 10 back to Windows 98, including many server environments such as Windows 2003, Windows 2008R2, and Windows 2012R2. I also have a professional working knowledge of several Linux flavors including Debian, Fedora, Ubuntu, and my company's server platform CentOS. I am also proficient in many different programming languages, C++ (general purpose), and web languages: HTML & CSS (considered markup), Javascript, PHP & MySQL. I've solely developed and completed nearly 300 web projects (View Portfolio) over the past 6 years.
Some Outstanding Projects I've Been Involved In...
- I was the technology consultant for the first fiber optic project to take place in Oscoda County that was available to the public, between Joel Yoder of the Essential Services Group and Glenn Wilson of M-33 Access. Press Release.
- I've personally invested and spent several years negotiating an agreement to purchase the domain name "oscodacounty.com" that our county lost to a marketing agency in Colorado. After obtaining the domain, I've since spent the past 4 years developing and managing the website, which currently brings an average of 20,000 visitors monthly and helps promote tourism to Oscoda County.
- I spent a year developing an online community platform, named True Outdoorsman Online, which was a success to the outdoors community when I was 14 years old. I ran it for several years until August 2009, before integrating it with another outdoors online community due to conflict of time with my newly started website design and hosting business. I consider True Outdoorsman Online to be my first successful project, while at its peak had nearly 11,000 members, 700 which were very active within it's community.
- I belonged to the beta development community for the Windows 7 operating system, and spoke on behalf of Microsoft at several public meetings throughout Northern Michigan, one of which was hosted here in Oscoda County.
- I was a classroom presenter for the Oscoda County achieves, Junior Achievement program in the spring of 2011, to deliver experiential programs on the topics of financial literacy, work readiness, and entrepreneurship to help educate and empower students on economics.
